Jest to pierwsza z cyklu wystawa zaplanowana przez Przeora gdańskiego Zakonu OO. Karmelitów Ojca Tadeusza Popielę. Karmelitańskie zgromadzenie związane jest z Gdańskiem już od połowy XIV wieku. Zakon odegrał wielką rolę w kształtowaniu tradycji i kultury Gdańska, a także całego kraju. Z wkładem zakonu w tworzenie artefaktów kultury materialnej – ksiąg i obrazów będzie można zapoznać się podczas wystawy. Wśród wielu ciekawych eksponatów, na wystawie pojawi się Graduał karmelitański – rękopis ojca Stanisława ze Stolca, karmelity, który jest jedną z największych i najbogatszych w iluminacje księgą liturgiczną w Polsce i w Europie.
Podziwiać będziemy także Constitutiones Fratrum Ordinis Carmelitarum z 1499 roku - pierwsze drukowane konstytucje Zakonu Karmelitów z przedstawieniem wczesnego herbu karmelitów (Vexillum), które stanowią najstarszy zachowany w Polsce egzemplarz konstytucji zakonnych. Wystawione zostanie również jedno z pierwszych wydań najsłynniejszego cyklu drzeworytów Hansa Holbeina Młodszego.
Wystawa trwać będzie przez dwie pełne doby, więc do zwiedzania zapraszamy w najbardziej dogodnych godzinach. Wstęp na wystawę jest bezpłatny.
Inaugurację wystawy, dnia 29 lipca o godzinie 20.00, uświetni koncert sławnego gdańskiego zespołu muzyki dawnej Cappella Gedanensis.
